At the last Parish Council meeting we discussed whether we should resurrect the Litter Picking Weekend, this is something that we apparently did many years ago.
We have been very fortunate that over the years Brian Peart had gone out every week and collected all the litter from around the village.
Therefore, in memory of Brian, we thought that we should ask for volunteers to help us on one day, every 6 months or so, to join us for a couple of hours and clear the village.
If you would like to support us for this event, please give me a call on 01327 860521 or e mail. email@example.com and I will put your name down on the list.
Once we have gathered enough volunteers we can decide on an exact date and provide whatever equipment we can muster (high viz vests, litter pickers, bin bags etc.) and allocate a small area of the village to each volunteer.
I propose that our first attempt will be in November, over one of the weekends of the 11th, 18th or 21st when the on-coming winter will have exposed the areas that need attention. The next one would be in the spring, April/May time.
Please let me know if you think that this is good idea and if you can support it in anyway.
I am aware that couple of very kind villagers have regularly stepped in and cleared a number of areas around the village in the last few months, so this gives us all a chance to support their individual efforts.
I do hope you can help.
Chairman Wappenham Parish Council.
